Pride is a feeling, deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements, from qualities or possesions that are widely admired and from our ethnic background (race, bloodline, skin color, attributes).
Pride may seem like a good thing but according to the bible, pride is the root of all sin (Psalm 10:4) and God does not like the proud person (Proverbs 8:13).
Pride was the first sin and satan was the first sinner (Isaiah 14:12-15). He became proud because he was so beautiful, so wise and so powerful as an angel that he began to covet God’s position and authority.
The bible talks about the effect that pride produces in humanity:
Proverbs 16:18: Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 11:2: When pride comes, then comes shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
Proverbs 18:12: Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.
Pride can easily offend others and carries with it a connotation that displays an inflated sense of one’s own worth or personal status and typically makes one feel a sense of superiority over others and can easily make someone look arrogant to others.
Therefor we should humble ourselves before God (2 Chronicles 7:14). Have a sense of grattitude and appreciation (Psalm 95:2).
Treat others with respect and dignity doesn’t matter the ethnicity, social status, color of skin and attributes (Philippians 2:3). Blessings and Peace beloved reader.
